Paul Kalkbrenner - Essential Mix - 30-07-2011

As of 2010, Paul Kalkbrenner has tallied up more than 15 years of experience as a producer and live act. The early 90s after the Berlin Wall fell were formative years for Paul, and after spending many long and sleepless nights on the dancefloors of E-Werk, Planet and Whale, the dream was born to make music himself. A job as TV editor got him through the mid-90s and financed his first music gear. By this point Paul had already decided that he did not want to be a typical DJ playing other people's records, but rather to play only his own music, live in a club setting. His first tracks as Paul Kalkbrenner were released in 1999 on Berlin-based BPitch Control (the newly founded label from Ellen Allien) as the Friedrichshain EP, titled after his home district in the city's east. A series of further singles and two full-lengths (Superimpose and Time) followed, plus continuous live performances.

Stephan Hinz – Plattenleger – 11-03-2012

It’s not very unusual for Stephan to disappear from the release radar for quite some time just to come up with a release or remix on one of the finest labels for electronic music on our little planet. Speaking with his own musical voice led him to releases alongside such illustrious artists like Sasha, Faithless, John Digweed, Oliver Koletzki, Extrawelt, Gui Boratto, Dusty Kid, Robert Babicz, Trentemøller and many more on labels like Renaissance, Kling Klong, Boxer, Audiomatique, Stil Vor Talent...thanks to his friend and mentor Martin Eyerer who kicked him into music production back then in the year 2001.

Richie Hawtin – Live @ New Horizons, Village Underground (London) – 23-02-2012

Hawtin was born in Banbury, Oxfordshire, England,] but moved when he was aged nine to LaSalle, Ontario, a suburb of Windsor, Ontario, and just across the river from Detroit, the birthplace of techno. His father worked as a robotics technician at General Motors, and was a fan of electronic music, introducing his son to Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream at an early age. He has one brother, Matthew, who is a visual artist and ambient music DJ. Hawtin attended Sandwich Secondary High School in LaSalle. He began to DJ in clubs in Detroit at 17, and his early style was a mix of house music and techno.

Julietta – Amore Podcast – 12-03-2012

When Julietta discovered the first House parties in the early nineties, Moodymann and Maurizio were two of the producers who captivated her so strongly that she began digging for electronic music by herself. Regularly she remained in miscellaneous record shops, always in search for some new chicago house and detroit records – at that time still without any dj ambitions. She did an interstation at the radio, where she moderated one of the first shows for electronic music throughout south germany. At the end of the nineties she had her first gig at the legendary Ultraschall in Munich, where she was offered a residency straight away.

She always was an activist in Munich nightlife and over the years she already gained an excellent reputation far beyond the German borders – at renowned venues like for instance Panoramabar (Berlin), Watergate (Berlin), Robert Johnson (Frankfurt), Rex (Paris), Fabric (London), Eleven (Tokyo), Arma17 (Moscow), Flex (Vienna), Club 11 (Amsterdam), Bar13 (New York), Kontrol (San Francisco), Cocoliche (Buenos Aires), Cocoon (Frankfurt) as well as festivals like Love Parade or Sonnemondsterne. In the meantime, after almost 100 gigs worldwide in the year 2007, she counts besides the famous Harry Klein an increasing number of resident clubs in Europe.

Her style varies somewhere between House and Techno with all its facets and stands out with a mind-blowing mixture of rare old and modern tracks. she has a specific intuition for the right record on the dancefloor, where she manages to build a set that hooks the listener until the last record.

2009 she founded the in-house label Harry Klein Records, together with the rest of the residents of the club. The first record was released beginning of 2010.
The same year she was asked to become part of the eminently respected label Sushitech, one of her favourites for a long time. She is going to release a 2 x 12“ compilation together with Sushitech’s labelhead Yossi Amoyal in spring/summer 2012 and started to play for their label nights all around the world.

. Karotte - Karottes Kitchen (01-02-2012)

There are loads of DJs. Sometimes far too many. Sometimes far too few truly good ones. But what is a good DJ, anyway? Especially within the club culture, good does not always mean that which people like.
But good is also certainly not something unpleasant, irritating or accentuatedly contrary. So, perhaps a good DJ is one that brings both together. One who plays music - or designs a night - in such a way, that his performance has „pleased” everybody, that the music induced joy and euphoria, and which perhaps was even inspiring for all of those present. Nevertheless, such a good set has blemishes, small shock effects, unusual tracks, absurdities. By making a game of these infractions of the rules a good DJ creates his own style, his signature. And the longer and more tenaciously he does that, the better he will be able to master it.

Marcel Dettmann - Live @ Boiler Room-005-(Berlin Germany)(29-12-2011)

Three hours ago he had catched the last train after a gig in Leipzig, heading for his set in Berlin the very same night. But Dettmann missed to get off – and suddenly has found himself stuck at dead end Hamburg main station: no trains till morning, no one to call for a ride. Promptly – and without any hesitation about the ridiculous charge – he hires a cab, having only one thing in mind: Berlin, Berghain, the Club …
Consequently nothing but the Club as a musical and cultural lifeworld forms and defines the life of Marcel Dettmann, who was born in the GDR in 1977 and raised with east-german youth culture. Influenced by EBM and Wave he faces the offspring of virgin Techno in early nineties’s Berlin and gets socialized with this new-born subcultural scene, whose way of life he shall live and develop untill today. On the one hand he has spinned records since 1994 including residency continuum at Berlin’s Ostgut/Berghain right from its opening in 1999. On the other Dettmann started to produce and release tracks and remixes in 2006. Beside Ostgut Ton first and foremost his self-run label MDR provides the necessary and appropriate outlet: no compromise, free, independent, facilitating the “quest for the optimal track”. His engagement at Berlin’s Technosaur Hard Wax also supports his innate quest: the continuous exploration of electronic music development.
Dettmann’s persistent reply to inquiries on his DJ-style – no doubts about its foundational and just natural club-oriented functionality – simply and sparsely reads “dark” and “the dark side”. At a closer look this brings to light a certain fascination in Techno: a futuristic medium inherently pointing towards the new and unseen, unexplored and unknown, undefined and unexpected.
For Dettmann Techno depicts a determination of both his life and music. At the same time it opens up the needed space to develop thoughts, actions and creations. Eventually Dettmann is having only this space in mind: Berlin, Berghain, the Club …

Jurek Przezdziecki - Live Excerpts Audioriver Festival 2011

Jerzy Przezdziecki was born in Warsaw, Poland in 1973. At the age of 10, as a result of his early, classical fascination with Chopin, Beethoven and Bach, he started his piano lessons. At that time he totally felt in love with music. As the years went by, his passion was getting stronger and stronger. Studying at the Warsaw College of Art he had the first opportunity to hear some electronic - mostly new beat and industrial – music. Front 242, Psychic TV, Throbbing Gristle, SPK and Coil changed Jurek’s attitude for the music forever. It was no longer enough to listen. He wanted to create. No matter what music genre he’s currently in, there’s always one goal: originality

Sublee and Vlad Dinu, The Mission Podcast 28.01.2012

One half of the production duo Marsomatic 700, with their first upcoming release on NYC label Nil due early 2012, Sublee is one act to keep your heart and minds open for. Creating music is like love; you don’t have to be close minded and stay on a track. Experiment, play with sounds; understand and love them. Vlad Dinu is true music lover since 1982, his musical influence ranges from deep groovy house to dancefloor killers. Has played  with names like PrasleaCezarKozoTulbureSuciu and more. LOCO DICE – TENDANCE RADIOSHOW 11-01-2012

Every so often a DJ or producer comes along who inspires the collective imagination.

If you’ve seen Loco Dice perform at his ten-year-long Tribehouse residency in his hometown Düsseldorf, or at DC- 10 in Ibiza (from ’02-’06), you will have clicked to this. Loco Dice is someone, who can puzzle together intangible moods with a direct approach.

Via his DJ sets or his productions on labels like M_nus, Cadenza, Ovum, Four Twenty and Cocoon, he merges perspectives in his delicate sense for sounds and reflective atmospheres, underpinned with solid, physical grooves inspired by the hip hop that was his early sonic stomping ground in the mid- to late ‘90s. There’s something there for the dreamers, as well as for the 9-to-5ers who just want to lose everything in a moment of abandon on the dancefloor.

Steve Mulder & Carlo Lio - Technation 036 [2012-01-06]

"Producer of 2010" - Eddie Halliwell (DJMag Top 100 Poll)

“One of the most exciting new dj’s / producers out of Holland”, and “Producer of 2008 Carl Cox (DJMag Top 100 Poll).

Steve Mulder is the one to watch out for in 2011. The talented, driven and focused dj / producer has supported some of the biggest and most respected names in the industry like Carl Cox, Umek, Eddie Halliwell, Paul van Dyk, Christian Smith, Billy Nasty, Michel de Hey, Cristian Varela, Joel Mull, Dave Clarke, Laidback Luke, Secret Cinema to name a few.

The interest in mixing came when he first heard fellow Dutchman Ben Liebrand’s legendary yearly mastermix show: The Grandmix. He first started to mix with a regular turntable and a cd player, sort out tracks with the same bpm and mixed them together. He discovered house music in the late 80's and immediately was captured by the sound.

Paco Osuna - Day One Festival Podcast 003 [2011-12-20]

Speaking about Paco Osuna is referring to one of the most successful producers and DJs to hail from Spain, so much so that he has forged a very important position within the top ranks of the European dance community as a whole, and it is not easy to summarize his success, but it is possible to derive it from three common denominators: creativity, innovation and evolution.
